With the big-money purchase of Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid, arsenal fans around the globe would be forgiven for salivating at the prospect of the German international linking up with the likes of Cazorla, Arteta, Flamini, Wilshere, Walcott, Rosicky, Ramsey, Podolski and the much-improved Olivier Giroud.
However, with the huge array of talent available to pick from, comes the inevitable selection headache for the manager-not that Arsene Wenger would mind anyway.
In this article we will try to look at how the gunners could line up this season with Ozil’s capture.
We will work with the assumption that Arsenal will deploy the 4-2-3-1 formation that has served them well up to this point.
Barring injury and sudden loss of form and based upon evidence so far this season, Sczesny, Merteserker, Koscielny, Sagna and Gibbs should form the back five for the gunners.
Once fully fit, Arteta will most probably join Wilshere in the two midfield positions in front of the defence, at the expense of Ramsey, with Ozil occupying the free role behind GIroud.
Walcott will certainly get the nod on the right wing with Cazorla on the opposite flank, just edging out Podolski and the Ox. So, here’s the full Arsenal line-up that should be strong enough to challenge the best in Europe.
Sczesny
Sagna - Koscielny - Merteserker - Gibbs
Wilshere - Arteta
Walcott - Ozil - Cazorla
GIroud
