Having fallen off their perch as one of the top teams in Europe in recent times, the reds will be desperate to reclaim their place among the continent's elite this season.
Here are five reasons why they have a really good shot at it this term.
No European football
Unlike their main challengers for the coveted Champions league spots, Liverpool have no continental commitments to worry about.
And, with a relatively thin squad compared to their rivals, the reds can now concentrate all their energies on a serious assault on the premier league.
World-class goalkeeper
Last season the Merseyside outfit were at times seriously let down by their then No.1 Pepe Reina.
The usually reliable Spaniard cost Liverpool dearly in their quest for European football with his gaffes and mistakes.
He has duly been shipped out to Napoli and replaced with the younger and more reliable Simon Mignolet.
The Belgian stopper is a genuine world-class performer and had it not been for him, Sunderland would be languishing in the Championship this season.
Suarez remaining at Anfield
The Uruguayan bad boy was widely expected to have played his last game for the Merseysiders after his disgraceful bite at Branislav Ivanovic’s arm.
However, last season’s top scorer has remained at Liverpool, and the fact that the reds have been on an impressive winning streak without their talisman should send an ominous warning to all their rivals.
Defensive reinforcements
With the additions of Kolo Toure, Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Llori to the Liverpool backline, the reds will be a much tougher team to break down this season.
The summer recruits also provide much-needed depth and competition at the back.
The Anfield fortress is back!
There was once a time when Anfield was the most intimidating venue for any team to visit, and Liverpool was practically impossible to beat at home.
Anybody watching keenly Liverpool home games at the end of last season and the beginning of this will know that the reds will take some beating at home this season.
