5 reasons why Manchester city will go far in the champions league this season

Having had two poor consecutive seasons in Europe's premier competition, the sky blues will be looking to get things right this season. Below are 5 reasons why they will do just that.

Manuel Pellegrini

In the Chilean tactician, Manchester city have acquired a manager boasting European pedigree

Having taken unfancied teams with far fewer resources than city far in the competition before, Pellegrini is the best man for the task at hand. He took Malaga and Villareal to the quarterfinals and semifinals respectively.

Strength in depth

Not many teams in Europe boast the kind of second team that city possess. With such a strong bench, city could so easily field two different teams for different games without losing quality.

This should ensure that they cope well enough with their assault for four trophies.

Two seasons’ experience

With the disappointment of the last couple of seasons, expect city to turn out a more formidable and experienced outfit in Europe this season.

Just like Borussia Dortmund did before them, city should learn from their past failures and progress this term.

Favorable group

Unlike the last two seasons where city were in the fabled 'group of death’, they have been pitted against Bayern Munich, CSKA Moscow and Victoria Plzen this time round.

Along with the defending champions, the sky blues should comfortably sail through to knockout phase.

Acquisition of players with Champions League experience

Manuel Pellegrini has added wisely to his troops this summer. The additions of Demichelis, Jovetic, Navas, Negredo and Fernandinho - all experienced players with Champions league pedigree- should ensure that stage fright is a thing of the past.
