With the close of the transfer window, clubs are not only left to mull over targets that slipped away but also deadwood that couldn't be offloaded for one reason or another.
The following are five players whose contributions do very little to justify them being on Manchester United’s payroll.
Ashley Young
After starting his old Trafford stint like a man possessed, the England international's career has badly tailed off and he is now nowhere near justifying the reported £17M united paid Aston Villa for him.
The problem with Ashley Young is that he is too predictable and one-dimensional. Opposing fullbacks have come to know what to expect from him- cutting back to his right foot and either crossing or shooting.
Anderson
For the last four years, the start of each season has been characterized by the belief that the Brazilian is on his last chance saloon as a united player.
Miraculously, he has survived each transfer window and is still picking up a sizable paycheck at Old Trafford.
After arriving from Portugal with the reputation of being one of the world’s best young prospects, Anderson has contributed very little to the United cause for quite some time now, and should without doubt be shifted by Moyes at the slightest opportunity.
Alexander Buttner
A poor reader of the game often caught out of position, the Dutchman doesn’t look cut out for the very top of the game. Though decent enough going forward, Buttner is quite sub-standard in his primary role-defending.
Put simply, he isn’t Manchester united material and should be moved on soonest possible.
Federico Macheda
Big things were expected of the young Italian when he scored the famous winner at villa park four years ago.
However, Macheda’s career has failed to kick-off, and he hasn’t scored a league goal for any of the three clubs- Sampdoria, Qpr and Stuttgart- he has played for on loan.
Bebe
Many were left dumbfounded when Sir Alex inexplicably decided to splash out £7.4 million on an unproven player he had never watched play.
3 years down the line and the Portuguese flop has hardly had a look-in at Old Trafford and has already been written off as a loss.
